Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She's worked as media critic since. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency which is an education non-profit website that explores representations of women in pop stories of culture. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular media, she is also working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and different classes of individuals online. Sarkeesian, who holds an MA in Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. While a student at university, Sarkeesian became fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. In 2009, the ebullient young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web that focused on the gender of videogames. It was not enough to deter her. In fact, it made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critique. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
